Why Nix?
An increasing amount of young adults are turning to e-cigarettes and vape products, due to their flavours, affordability, and peer pressure. While e-nicotine products do not contain as many toxic chemicals as traditional cigarettes, they are not without their own health risks. With the difficulty of commiting to nicotine cessation, Nix is able to ease the experience into ending nicotine reliance. Nix is a smart IoT enabled, nicotine cessation wearable that acts as transdermal nicotine patch replacement. It improves over the traditional nicotine patch experience through technology and user-centered design. The Nix band comes with a companion app to monitor and incentivize progress towards ending nicotine reliance.
Nix Band
In addition to being a more functional alternative to nicotine patches, one difficulty with previous patches was the external sigma towards wearing one. We developed Nix to accomodate this and adopted the form factor of a finess tracker to conceal it’s purpose from peers. Due to the ubiquity of fitness trackers, we found that this form factor also allowed us the benefit of more volume for internals (Compared to a traditional nicotine patch).
The App
The Nix app allows user’s not only the ability to monitor their band’s battery, and nicotine levels - but also the user’s vitals too. The app uses a combination of data inputted from the user and the Nix band’s analytics to present important progress to the users. User’s can monitor their daily dosages, analyze granular data on how the nicotine is affecting their body, and see how their dwindling reliance on nicotine is of benefit to them. Quitting nicotine is as much a psychological difficulty, as it is a physical one. To assist users in dealing with this battle, Nix offers pathways and integration to popular services like Headspace and Calm. These programs are equipt and prepared to help users who are dealing with these difficulties.
