Influenced by South Korea’s cafe culture and the home cafe trend that flourished during COVID-19, Sohwakhaeng is a home cafe kit that introduces Korea’s refreshing cafe culture to the West while also creating a new way to pass time while at home. “Sohwakhaeng/소확행” is a Korean saying that translates to “small but certain happiness”. During this dreary time society is currently facing, our goal is to remind everyone to enjoy the little things in life.
From the colours of the teas and toppings to the shapes of the fruit, ice, and drinkware, Sohwakhaeng is inspired by all aspects of cafe culture. The brand mimics the beauty of the drinks through gradients of vivid colours in a circle motif. The kit includes the essential items needed to make the captivating drinks: tea, toppings, reusable straws, drinkware, and ice trays, all contained in a wooden box.
As a growing number of Korean individuals are moving into small studio apartments, the container was designed to be of optimal use within these small spaces. The box is big enough to be used as a nightstand or a small table, with the lid doubling as a tray. Inspired by the Korean Bojagi/보자기, a traditional way to wrap objects, the box is wrapped with a cloth to keep it held together. The cloth can later be repurposed to be used as a table cloth or made into masks.
