The interactive insoles designed for runners
Pronation and supination are terms used to describe the orientation of the foot while in motion. When the foot is pronating, it is leaning slightly inward; conversely, when the foot is supinating, it leans outward. Excessive pronation or supination can cause problems with the body’s natural alignment, leading to a variety of injuries. This is a common problem experienced by athletes, especially runners. Smartsole is the first interactive insole that corrects footing in real time to help athletes prevent injuries and run smarter.
Smart technology
Using predictive shock absorption technology, Smartsole moves to position the foot properly based on the activity being performed. The creation of this project involved an in-depth review of the technologies that are currently available. This research showed a gap in the sports market where the technology solely serves as a tool for tracking the mechanics of running. Smartsole develops this further by physically adjusting the insoles in real time.
Easily pair with your device
The insoles pair with a smartphone or smartwatch application to analyze the user’s foot mechanics. Smartsole works by placing the insoles into running shoes and charging them on the Smartmat. Once fully charged, users connect to the Smartsole app and add their physiological characteristics to determine the proper footing for their run. The app tracks the user’s foot mechanics based on four criteria; impact force, attack type, prono-supination, and stride quality.
Intuitive feedback
Smartsole offers six different types of exercise. On the app, users select their workout, put on Smartsoles and run. Throughout the run, Smartsole targets errors in footing and adjusts the insoles to position the foot properly. When the insoles are being adjusted, the app sends a notification to inform the user of the adjustment. The user’s data is stored in the app for viewing how improvements can be made for future runs. This ensures safety and efficiency throughout the duration of the workout.
