Sensory-processing sensitivity is an urgent point of research due to its high prevalence in human populations and its direct relation to various maladaptive life outcomes, as a significant factor in HSP well-being and quality of life. Despite its prevalence, SPS is still relatively unknown and misunderstood in the general public, which increases the risk of HSP ostracization, isolation and mental illness — especially in high stimulation-oriented Western societies. This is where I believe design has an opportunity to bridge gaps of public knowledge and improve HSP self-perception, by introducing new ways of understanding SPS in visual language.
A Guide to SPS
Between my first approach and my final product, I came a very long way. I began the project hoping to incorporate risograph printing and a variety of images but quickly decided that I wanted to go a more simple yet elegant direction. I wanted to let the typefaces speak for the music and to encourage the reader to sing the words as they turn page to page. This desire lead to larger, unique, display typefaces and a more "boring" design. I focused more on understanding the technicalities of typography through the leading and kerning of letters and became more aware of the relationships between words. This process allowed me to experience a new style of design that I will continue to embrace in the future.

Seeing that the core concept of Lumi is built around fireflies, it is only fitting that the brand name also reflects that. Fireflies produce a chemical reaction inside their bodies which allows them to glow. This process is called bioluminescence and is the meaning behind the brand. The brand name Lumi is derived from the word bioluminescence and the French word for light, lumière. The external package design also stays true to the firefly theme. It makes use of the fireflies lower abdomen as a cut out, allowing the consumer to see the lightbulb. The external design is both in French and English and includes all the required information such as brightness, watts, efficiency, warning labels, and life expectancy.

A significant part of the organization’s history was William Booth’s efforts in redefining the conventional use of a church to a shelter. This factor had a vital contribution to the rebrand of the organization and their logo. The concept was to adopt the door frame and re-introduce it with the logotype and present a memorable element attached to it being the “S” streaks. The additional element to the logomark also serves as a representation of unity, a strong practice in the organization. The logotype presents a visually welcoming and legible typeface that works with the slogan embracing the devoted attribute of The Salvation Army.

&CO. Magazine emerges from the ambition of combining controversial and impactful issues in society with art and design. The goal is to inspire, empower and inform the audience by using tools such as expressive typography, conceptual photography and color. &CO. Aims to connect with the public by provoking a series of emotions with artistic mediums. As well as encouraging their responsibility to stay informed about the challenges present in their surroundings.
Women & Co.
FilminColour is a revolutionized library of fully searchable high-definition film stills. Unlike any of its competitors, FilminColour allows you to explore film stills by theme and colour. The database serves as a learning resource for film students and a tool for designers. Users will gain a more exploratory view of colour as a narrative vehicle in film. They will also leave with a better understanding of colour theory.

Rachelle is an information designer who is particularly interested in the relationship between subjective experience and quantitative data. She has used information design to better understand her own life through activity tracking and other projects. She spends a nontrivial amount of her time making spreadsheets.

Henry Wilkinson (who also goes by Hank, pick the one you like!) is a multidisciplinary designer currently working somewhere in the realm of motion, branding, and web design. He likes long walks on the beach, distributed web systems, music production, typography, visual effects, and 3D art!

Ivy is a designer who loves to experiment with all types of design, such as UI/UX, branding and motion. She spends way too long watching cartoons and playing games, but somehow always finds time to work on her never ending list of projects for music, design and work.

Alice is a designer who is unlimited by labels. Her favourites are information, editorial, package, and branding design. She searches to be challenged and pushed out of her comfort zone to get the job done, whatever it may be. Her ideal job is as an inhouse designer, working on something new all the time. In her down time, she enjoys the 3 C’s: cross stitching, cats and crafting.
Alice Longtin
Paniz is a multidisciplinary designer interested in creating sustainable products and accessible spaces. She loves working and learning about accessible designs and having the experience to work in various mediums. Using her skills in UX/UI and information design, she is very interested in the human experience and how her designs can best inform and interact with her audience. Paniz aims to create solutions through critical problem solving while also delivering visually entertaining design outcomes that the user can connect with.

Samm is a print and package designer that is focused on making functional and meaningful work that is also fun to look at. That being said, her nagging environmental guilt has become a driving force in her design process and has greatly increased her interest and exploration of sustainability within print design.

Rachel is brand identity and package designer whose creative output is pivoted around bringing meaningful connections to life through design. Rachel values how culture and design intertwine and enrich each other. Rachel's main design philosophy is creating reflective, meaningful, and memorable design.

Heather is a Taiwanese visual designer who loves making friendly and approachable illustrations to spice up her works. She enjoys spending (some) time with her friends, but usually she’s in her room, working, sleeping or playing games with pretty graphics.
